After becoming the first woman of color to win Miss Universe Ireland in 2019, I was introduced to Smile Train through the Miss Universe Organization. Out of all of the charitable organizations I worked with throughout my reign, the global impact of Smile Train's work for children touched me the most. In 2022, I travelled to the Central Hospital in Maputo, Mozambique to meet with children and families that have received life-changing treatment through Smile Train. I was able to talk to doctors and local workers to understand the many challenges that families face in Mozambique to get much needed healthcare for their children. Access, location, transportation, and long waitlists to even see a healthcare professional create large obstacles for families. After this trip, I set out to run the NYC half-marathon on behalf of Smile Train to raise funds to support cleft-care for children in southeast Africa.
Now, I am setting my sights on a larger goal: the London marathon April 2023. Join me in paying it forward by supporting me in my very first marathon. My goal is to raise $6,000. Let's help change the world one smile at a time together!
